The role
Leading an experienced locally engaged team to advance Australia’s economic and business interests in Washington DC., the Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner will develop highly valuable business and government networks in the US market.

As the Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner based in the Australian Embassy in Washington, DC you will be responsible for building and strengthening whole of Government relationships across the Embassy and in the US market.
You will contribute to Australia’s global reputation by enhancing economic prosperity and promoting Australian capability in the US market.

As a Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner, you will represent Austrade and Australia in a range of high-level corporate and government settings. You will seek commercial opportunities where areas of demand can be matched with Australian businesses, expertise, products and services ensuring Australia remains globally competitive.

You will advance Australia’s strengths as a highly attractive destination for investors through identification and attraction of US companies seeking to establish or expand their business in Australia.

Leveraging the badge of government to establish trusted relationships, you will build strategies for engagement and assist Australian organisations access opportunities in the US market.

As the senior leader of a culturally diverse team, you know how to develop and motivate people to achieve outstanding results that support Austrade’s strategy. Your leadership will also inspire them to feel a strong connection to Austrade’s vision and purpose.

This position will be offered on a non-ongoing (specified term) basis for up to four years.  Commencement is anticipated to be early 2022.

A merit pool may be created from this recruitment round to fill similar vacancies that may arise during the subsequent 12 months from the date of advertising.


Eligibility
Australian citizenship – our successful candidate must be an Australian citizen.
Security clearance – our successful candidate will be subject to a number of vetting processes, including Negative Vetting 2 prior to appointment.
